The Face That Turns Any Image into a Summons

SCP-096 is an elongated, unpigmented humanoid that ordinarily paces, crouches, or covers its face. Danger does not depend on whether an observer understands the image. Direct sight, video, or even a few pixels in the background of a photograph can designate a viewer as the target. The entity first enters a state of crying and screaming, then pursues that person in a direct line, overcoming distance, terrain, and conventional obstruction. After the event it returns to a withdrawn state.

This mechanism converts every image into a delayed fuse. A landscape photograph may remain harmless for years until someone enlarges the background; a database thumbnail can reproduce a containment failure anywhere. SCP-096 reverses the central promise of modern visual culture. Photography usually allows the distant world to arrive safely before the eye; here the distant entity follows the act of viewing back to the viewer. A major incident report also exposes personnel who deliberately engineered a breach to justify destruction, widening the horror from an anomalous creature to an institution capable of manufacturing catastrophe in pursuit of a supposedly safer result.
