The Wilderness Giant with Loudspeakers for a Head
Siren Head stands about forty feet tall, its body like a mummified husk the color of rust and bark, arms hanging nearly to the ground. It has no face: above the shoulders rises a bare metal pole carrying two corroded civil-defense loudspeakers. It waits at treelines, along empty highways, and at the edge of subdivisions, indistinguishable from a dead tree or utility pole until it moves. It hunts entirely by sound, broadcasting warped emergency alerts, static, scraps of music, and voices recorded from its victims' friends and family — in the dark countryside, the person who walks toward a familiar cry for help does not come back.
Siren Head is the original creation of Toronto horror artist Trevor Henderson, first posted to his Twitter and Tumblr accounts in 2018. Henderson's signature method is compositing grainy monsters into ordinary phone snapshots and old photographs with brief, report-like captions, so each image reads like accidental evidence. His work forms a whole bestiary of towering creatures — Cartoon Cat, the church-sized giants — and Siren Head is its most traveled member.
Between 2019 and 2020 the monster broke out through games: a short PS1-style title by Modus Interactive, then Garry's Mod and Minecraft mods that made it a staple of streamers and YouTube horror shorts, with a traffic spike during the pandemic lockdowns that left it the most famous original internet monster since Slender Man. Henderson retains the rights and has repeatedly declined to fix an origin story: the mystery is the point.
